RICE; the Research Institute for the Care of Older People

RICE is an internationally renowned research and treatment centre located in Bath. We are an independent charity focused on essential research and providing support for people with dementia and other conditions of older age, their families and carers; dedicated to improving the quality of life of everyone involved.

RICE provides the NHS memory clinic for Bath and North East Somerset at our centre on the site of the Royal United Hospital. We receive referrals from GPs or privately, then assess memory and thinking, and provide treatment where possible for dementia.

We also offer free post-diagnosis support for people affected by dementia such as ‘Cognitive Stimulation Therapy’ and our ‘Living Well with Dementia’ course. We encourage carers of someone with dementia to attend our regular one-day course to learn where to turn for advice.

We work with partner organisations such as the Alzheimer’s Society, Independent Living Service and Carers Centre to support patients and their families to live well. RICE is also involved in research into new treatments, primarily for dementia. We welcome contact from anyone who is interested in being involved in these trials.
