Think Equal

Find out how the Think Equal programme supports young children’s social and emotional learning in your early years setting.

Think Equal programme for early years settings

Think Equal helps you support young children’s social and emotional learning in your early years setting. Following an invitation to settings across Bath and North East Somerset, 19 group-based settings and 13 childminders signed up for the first year.

About Think Equal

Think Equal is an education charity that has won multiple awards. Its curriculum-based programme helps you support children’s social and emotional learning, with empathy, equality and inclusion at its heart. These are important priorities for early years settings.

Benefits for children

The programme helps children learn to:

  • manage their emotions and impulsive behaviour
  • build confidence and self-esteem
  • show empathy and consideration for others
  • solve problems effectively, work with others and resolve conflicts peacefully
  • think critically and make responsible decisions
  • maintain healthy relationships
  • value differences and similarities.

Through storytelling and discussion, children also develop their communication, language and literacy skills, as well as their understanding of the world.

Using the programme in your setting

As part of the programme, you:

  • share stories and simple activities each week, following the programme guidance
  • include the activities in your everyday early years practice
  • share home learning resources linked to each week's topics.

You can reuse the resources each year with new groups of children.
