Best Start in Life Community Champions

Use this page to find out about Best Start in Life Community Champions

Our Community Champions are local parents and carers who use their lived experience and knowledge of the services available in B&NES to support other families.

Four Community Champions are based at the Best Start Family Hub Twerton. They offer friendly, informal peer support and help families feel welcome, listened to, and connected.

How Community Champions can help

Community Champions can:

  • share information in the local community to promote the services and groups available at Best Start Family Hub Twerton
  • welcome you to the Family Hub and be a friendly face when you arrive
  • listen and offer peer support while you are waiting to meet a professional or using the hub's facilities
  • help you find groups and services that may be useful to you and your family
  • explain what is available at the hub, including practical facilities such as the washing machine and tumble dryer
  • connect families and professionals, helping to make services more approachable and accessible

Community Champions are not professionals or advisers. Their role is to listen, share information and help families connect with the right services and people.

Local knowledge and lived experience

Our Community Champions are parents and carers who live locally in Bath and North East Somerset. They understand that visiting a new service or asking for support can sometimes feel difficult.

You do not need to have a particular concern or know which service you need before speaking to a Community Champion. They can listen, help you explore what is available and point you in the right direction.

Training and support

The Community Champions were recruited and trained by Southside, a local charity that supports individuals and families across Bath and North East Somerset.
