Information for people living with cancer and their carers' and loved ones.

Cancer services at the Royal United Hospital (RUH)

The Royal United Hospital (RUH) provides cancer services to over 500,000 people in the South West and is one of the largest cancer centres in the region. Find RUH cancer information including cancer types, diagnosis, treatments and therapies.

Most non-surgical cancer care services including oncology, chemotherapy and anti-cancer treatments and radiotherapy, the William Budd inpatient ward, research teams, a dedicated pharmacy and a Macmillan Wellbeing Hub are based in the new Dyson Cancer Centre at the RUH.

If you’re in cancer treatment you will have a dedicated Personalised Care & Support Team, provided at the RUH by the Macmillan Wellbeing Hub. The team will include a Cancer Nurse Specialist to support your medical needs and a Cancer Support Worker to support your non-medical needs. The hub is a non-clinical, calming space where patients, families and carers can receive practical and emotional support. It has counselling rooms, complementary therapy spaces, an information space, and comfortable accommodation where relatives and loved ones can stay overnight. The team will support your whole cancer journey and beyond.

Cancer support from your GP practice

If you have a cancer diagnosis your GP Practice is also there to support you.  If you have questions or worries, you can book to talk to a member of the team at any time, who may include your GP, a Practice Nurse or a Cancer Care Co-ordinator. You are also entitled to a review by your GP Practice called a Cancer Care Review. Your GP Practice should contact you within three months of diagnosis and offer a full Cancer Care Review within twelve months of diagnosis.

Community support

B&NES Citizens Advice Macmillan Services supports people affected by cancer with any non-medical concerns. They provide two services; the Welfare Rights Service offers you support and advice on issues around the cost of living with cancer and; the Macmillan Link Service, having completed your hospital treatment, supports you to adjust to life back in the community.

Macmillan Cancer Support is the UK’s leading cancer care charity and provides information about cancer types, treatments and what to expect throughout your cancer journey. Macmillan also offer a support line and an online community.
