Free breakfast clubs in B&NES primary schools

Use this page to learn about breakfast clubs available through the Department for Education free breakfast clubs programme

If your child goes to a participating primary school, they can start the school day with a free healthy breakfast.

The Department for Education free breakfast clubs programme is being introduced across England. It helps children feel ready to learn and gives families extra childcare before school.

How the clubs work

Participating schools offer a free breakfast club session for all primary school children. The session lasts at least 30 minutes before the school day starts.

In many schools, your child can arrive on the day without booking. The school will welcome them and offer them a healthy breakfast before lessons begin.

The free session gives children time to eat, spend time with friends and settle into a calm start to the day.

Schools taking part

There are currently six schools in Bath and North East Somerset taking part in the programme:

  • Peasedown St John Primary School
  • St Michael's Junior School
  • Twerton Infant School
  • St Martin's Garden Primary School
  • North Star 180
  • Whitchurch Primary School

Paid breakfast clubs

Schools can continue to offer their existing paid breakfast club as well as the free session. If you need an earlier drop-off time, for example because of work, you may still be able to use paid childcare before the free breakfast club starts.

Any childcare before the free session starts will be charged in line with the school’s usual arrangements.
