Proposal for new Special School in B&NES

Local data and forecasting analysis demonstrate the need for a new special school in B&NES. Therefore, the local authority is looking to apply to the DfE new special wave, in order to ensure children with SEND are receiving the support they need to succeed in their education and all part of their lives.

The special wave is the governmental pledge to approve up to 60 special and AP free schools to open from September 2025, creating around 4,500 special school places.

We are currently in the process of clarifying the school specifications, including the size of the schools, the type of needs and age range, as well as identifying a suitable site. In depth local data analysis suggests the need for a 120 places school, providing for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PLMD), from age 4 to 19.

B&NES are deeply committed to ensuring the new school truly benefits the local community. Therefore, we would like to hear from you and welcome your views.

We will be hosting an Open Engagement Event at 5pm on the 4th October 2022 at the Keynsham Community Space Market Walk which will be an opportunity for people to come and share their views. If you would like to attend, please email consultation@premieradvisory.co.uk with the subject ‘B&NES Open Engagement Event’.

We would also be highly grateful if you could take the time to fill a short online survey to share your views on the above proposal.

If you would like more information regarding the new special free school wave, have any questions, or would like to discuss anything further with us, please do email us at consultation@premieradvisory.co.uk.
