Some mainstream schools have specialist units or resource bases attached to the mainstream school. Usually, a child or young person will need to have an EHC plan to access this provision. These resource bases provide specialist teaching and targeted support to children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
Below are the resource bases within mainstream provisions in Bath & North East Somerset:
- Margaret Coates at St Martin’s Primary School provides support to primary aged children with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC).
- The Specialist Resource Base (SRB) at Oldfield School supports high achieving secondary aged students who have Autism and an EHCP. The students will be able to access a mainstream curriculum, GCSE and potentially A level qualifications, with additional wrap around support from the SRB.
- Orchard Lodge at St Mark’s Secondary school support secondary aged students with and EHCP and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).
- Hearing Impaired Resource Base (HIRB) at Weston All Saints Primary support primary aged children with a Hearing Impairment.
- The Midford Unit at St Nicholas Primary support primary aged children with an EHCP identifying social, emotional and mental health difficulties as the primary need.
- Comets at Midsomer Norton Primary School supports children with Education, Health and Care plans (EHCP) with a primary need of SPLD (Specific Learning Difficulty).
- The Star - SEND Resource Base at Peasedown St John Primary School will be providing support for primary aged children with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) from its opening in September 2024.
