TLC LIVE provide live interactive individualised tutoring sessions, delivered by fully qualified teachers to children and young people in a collaborative, engaging format via our online learning programme. By delivering sessions online, the availability of tutors is assured, and the pool of resource available is strengthened as tutors are recruited based on their ability rather than locality. With over 35,000 hours of national curriculum content available for learners from 6 years old up to A level, we can accommodate a wide range of educational needs.
Our service focuses on improving academic engagement and attainment through personalised one-to-one support, alongside Academic Mentoring and Preparing for Adulthood provision where appropriate. Outcomes are geared towards removing barriers to education, supporting learners to re-engage with learning and ultimately progressing towards qualifications, reintegration into mainstream education, further education, training or employment.
Sessions are designed to target skills gaps identified through assessment, working towards wider outcomes including improved academic ability, confidence, engagement, motivation and independence. Our Academic Mentoring programme provides learners with consistent, individualised support to identify and overcome barriers to learning, develop resilience, improve attendance and engagement, set achievable goals and take greater ownership of their progress. Academic Mentoring can be aligned to EHCP outcomes, placement targets and reintegration goals and is particularly suited to learners with SEND, SEMH needs, EBSA or disrupted education.
TLC LIVE recognise that many students who are out of school need alternative pathways to support successful progression. Our Preparing for Adulthood programme supports young people aged 14–25 across the four recognised outcomes of employment and further education, independent living, community inclusion and relationships, and health and wellbeing. Provision can include careers education, employability, CV and interview preparation, budgeting, communication, self-advocacy and wider independent living skills, personalised around the learner's EHCP outcomes and aspirations. TLC LIVE are also a registered ASDAN centre offering short courses and an NCFE exam centre, allowing us to deliver Level 1 and 2 qualifications, Functional Skills examinations and wider accredited pathways.
How our provision works:
Individualised Provision: Students are taught independently in separate online classrooms, accessible on a laptop, desktop or Chromebook, as we believe this helps them focus their time and energy on mastering the skills they need to catch up and move forward. Baseline assessments identify the young person's current academic level and initial learning gaps, with further assessments usually completed every 10 lessons to track progress. This can be adapted to suit the requirements of the student or referrer. Lessons are delivered flexibly, allowing tutors to adapt planned content during the session according to teacher and student feedback, identified needs and the student's interests. Where Academic Mentoring or Preparing for Adulthood support is included, personalised targets can also be incorporated into the learner's Individual Learning Plan and reviewed throughout the placement.
Flexibility: TLC LIVE can run lessons at any time, including weekends and holidays, with hours arranged around the young person's individual timetable. We can support anything from 1 hour up to 17 hours per week with no minimum booking. Schools and Local Authorities also value the flexibility of our service as we do not require long-term contracts. While a term's worth of sessions can be booked, we invoice monthly so commissioners only pay for sessions received, and we require just 24 hours' notice to cancel or rearrange a lesson. We can also work to a school's timetable and scheme of work and support all major exam boards. Academic Tuition, Academic Mentoring and Preparing for Adulthood can be delivered individually or combined to create a personalised package around the learner's needs.
Reporting and feedback: At the end of each lesson, students are asked to provide feedback on content and overall enjoyment. Referrers can access summary reports through our online portal, while tutors provide feedback on engagement and progress, summarise topics covered and identify plans for subsequent sessions. Real-time attendance can also be viewed through the portal. Academic Mentoring and wider developmental targets can be monitored alongside academic progress, providing commissioners with a holistic view of the learner's attendance, engagement, attainment, confidence and progress towards agreed outcomes.
Quality of teaching and support: Our live tutors are fully UK trained and qualified in their specialist subject, ensuring each student receives high-quality teaching, support and guidance. All tutors are enhanced DBS checked for safeguarding purposes and lessons are recorded and monitored through head office. Our wider approach recognises that successful outcomes are not based on attainment alone, combining academic teaching with mentoring, progression planning and preparation for adulthood to help learners build the confidence, resilience, independence and skills required for their next steps.
