About

Taking Risks to Transform Lives

Urban Pursuit is a Bristol-based alternative education provider supporting young people who are struggling to engage with mainstream education or are at risk of school exclusion.

Through adventure, positive relationships and personalised support, we help young people build confidence, develop essential life skills and re-engage with education.

Our approach combines exciting outdoor activities with purposeful personal and social development, helping young people overcome barriers, recognise their strengths and achieve positive outcomes.

What we offer

  • Small-group provision: Adventure-based learning in supportive groups of up to six young people.
  • One-to-one support: Tailored programmes for young people who benefit from individual mentoring and additional support.
  • UP+ Education: A combination of English, Maths and adventure-based learning, providing additional academic support alongside personal development.
  • Flexible placements: Half-day, one-day and two-day weekly options, with bespoke arrangements available.
  • Adventure activities: Including mountain biking, climbing, bushcraft, paddleboarding and other activities designed to develop confidence, resilience and teamwork.
  • Progress monitoring: Regular feedback to schools on each young person's engagement, achievements and development.
  • Transport: Transport arrangements available, subject to location and placement requirements.

Who we support

Our provision is particularly suited to young people who:

  • Are at risk of permanent exclusion or experiencing repeated suspensions.
  • Have difficulties with school attendance or engagement.
  • Need additional support with confidence, self-esteem, emotional regulation or social skills.
  • Benefit from practical, relationship-based learning outside the traditional classroom.
  • Need a personalised approach to help them reconnect with education.

Our approach

We believe lasting change happens through strong relationships, positive experiences and appropriate challenge.

Our programmes are designed to help young people develop their identity, interaction, self-management, aptitudes and aspirations.

We work closely with schools, families and other professionals to support each young person's progress and help them remain connected to education.
