Project Rugby
Bath Rugby Foundation is delivering Premiership Rugby's Project Rugby programme which is designed to introduce the sport of rugby to participants who may have previously felt excluded from the sport.
Project Rugby is a joint initiative between Premiership Rugby and England Rugby and aims to increase participation in the game by people from traditionally underrepresented groups:
Black Asian & Minority Ethnic People
People from Lower Socio-Economic backgrounds (top 30% IMD)
Disabled People
During the 2018/19 season Bath Rugby Foundation worked with 38 schools across B&NES and the surrounding area and created hubs in Bath, Midsomer Norton, Trowbridge, Chippenham and Salisbury. After youngsters are introduced to rugby in schools the hubs run for a further 12 to 14 weeks, providing a progression pathway for players to continue enjoying the sport, with an introduction to local clubs. For some players the season ended with a match at the home of English Rugby - see the video below.
Bath Rugby Foundation set up the Walcot Warriors, the South West’s first Mixed Ability rugby team, and now have six Mixed Ability rugby teams; Walcot Warriors, Chippenham Cavaliers, Bath Ladies Trojans (BLT), Melksham Stags, Yeovil Mixed Ability and The Cranes (Stothert & Pitt RFC): Mixed Ability Rugby | Bath Rugby Community Foundation
