Grow for Life
We are a small Bath based mental health charity that offers free weekly social and therapeutic gardening sessions for people whose daily lives are affected by depression, anxiety, isolation and low confidence.
We have been running sessions since 2019 and, in that time, we have helped dozens of people grow in confidence, connect with other people and learn new skills - all within wonderful gardening spaces in and around the Bath area.
We currently run the following sessions during the week:
Tuesdays - Herb & Nature - 10 week course - Royal Victoria Park Bath
Starting 18th February 2025, 10:30am - 1:30pm
Opportunity to learn how to grow and use different herbs
Session split into horticultural tasks such as sowing seeds, taking cuttings, potting up and a mindful walk every week learning how to identify different trees and plants in the park.
Great first step for very anxious people to build routine and get out of the house - many of our attendees go on to the certified City and Guild Level 1 or 2 offered by the Urban Garden
Wednesdays (13:00-16:00pm) (12 week block)
This session is held at various private gardens in and around Bath and which belong to people that, due to illness or disability, are unable to attend to their own garden regularly. Some sessions are also held in our Walled Garden in Newton St Loe. We also assist other local charities who need help with keeping their garden spaces maintained.
An opportunity to work as part of a team, build social skills and confidence.
Boosts mental wellbeing by being with others, doing meaningful work and gaining some experience of what working as a gardener would be like, learning how to use tools safely and effectively.
Thursdays (10:30- 13:30) (12 week block)
This session is held at our very own Walled Garden and orchard on the outskirts of Bath where we have the facility to plant and grow our own vegetables and is a peaceful space where people can join us in a safe and friendly environment and take things at their own pace and even share in the resulting harvest!
Horticultural tasks include seed sowing, pricking out, planting, watering, harvesting and composting.
