Sessions run every Thursday from 10am-11.30am at the Bath Sports & Leisure Centre. Kicking off with a warm-up, the weekly sessions also involve skills development and pairs cricket matches before all attendees are invited back to Bath Cricket Club for teas, coffees and a catch-up in the relaxed and friendly setting of The Boundary, which is the club’s versatile venue for a range of events. The first 2 sessions are FREE tasters
Bath cricket club launched its community coaching team in 2006 and currently focuses the majority of its work in the community by supporting school aged children within local schools and at its home ground during the school holidays.
Walking Cricket opens the doors to older members of the community and brings participants back to a sport that was once loved, helping them to connect with the past and catch up with former teammates, just played at a slower pace – so it’s perfect for people who are older, or less physically able, but who still want to enjoy the thrill of the game.
For new payers, they’ll discover that it’s very social filled with team spirit and fun, playing in teams and pairs when batting, forging partnerships and hopefully friendship. Everything is walking, including the ‘runs’ and fielding. A match lasts 90 minutes, helping players to meet a substantial portion of the weekly guidelines for moderate activity that also incudes strength, balance, flexibility, and coordination.
Equipment is specialised for health and safety reasons and usability – using plastic bats, stumps and light synthetic balls.
Once the game is over its all about the social as we head back to Bath cricket club for a brew, biscuits and occasionally cakes to relieve the action and catch up on the week just gone.
