As part of the Children's Act 1989, all Local Authorities in the UK are required to keep a voluntary register of children and young people from birth to 18 years old who live in their area and have a disability or special educational need. This is known as the Children's Disability Register, or CDR.
In Bath and North East Somerset, you can register to join our CDR by signing up to our Rainbow Resource Scheme. By joining the scheme, you will receive a free Rainbow Resource card for your child which will provide discreet recognition of your child's additional need and may entitle you to access concessions at venues across the South West.
The Children's Disability Register helps us and local health services understand:
- how many children and young people with special educational needs live in Bath and North East Somerset;
- the types of needs they have.
Knowing the above information helps inform services about the needs of people in our communities and enables them to offer the most suitable provision to meet those needs. It also helps with service planning.
