The Department for Education (DfE) has published the Schools White Paper, Every child achieving and thriving, and a consultation on SEND reform: putting children and young people first.
Every child achieving and thriving focuses on improving the lives of all children and young people, with a broad curriculum and an end to the one-size-fits-all approach to education. It outlines the government’s vision for change in schools and calls on parents, schools, local services, and everyone working with children and young people to help build a future where every child can achieve and thrive.
There is an emphasis on local areas working as a system to provide wrap‑around support to children and young people.
- SEND Reform: putting children and young people first consultation closes on 18 May 2026
- DfE expects local area partnerships to develop a local SEND Reform Plan ready for autumn 2026
Share your views on the proposed changes to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND, including early, local and fair support, grounded in evidence and with shared accountabilities across local partners.
