Accessibility Mentor for Great Western Railway (GWR)
Mentoring service for groups and individuals (including children) who might have some challenges with using the trains. Taking them on short train trips to help them get over any fears or practical challenges.
We provide travel training / 'try-a-train' trips to individuals or groups who are not confident about using trains or are unsure if the right help will be available. This service is aimed at older people, or adults or young people who have special educational needs and / or disabilities (SEND), as well as SEN schools or colleges and charities or service providers. We aim to reassure and provide the correct level of information to help them travel either independently, or in a relaxed atmosphere with their companion. It would usually involve a visit to a station followed by a trip by train, allowing us to provide real-world examples of how things work and the help that is available. We do not charge for our time or the rail travel.
Each case is different, we therefore adapt our service to suit the needs of the group or individual. Contact us for a chat about your individual needs.
