What is extra care housing
Extra care housing gives you a way to live independently, with care and support available when you need it.
Designed for older people or people with care or support needs, you live in your own private self‑contained flat or apartment, while being part of a supportive community. You have the added reassurance of 24‑hour emergency support and flexible care packages tailored to your individual needs available on site.
Homes may be available to rent, buy or part‑own, depending on the scheme.

- communal lounges and dining areas

These facilities and shared spaces help reduce isolation and support your wellbeing.

Living independently for longer
Extra care housing is designed to promote wellbeing, choice and autonomy. It enables residents to remain active and involved in the community while receiving as much or as little support as they need. By combining accessible and adaptable housing, communal facilities and flexible care that can cater for changing needs over time, it can help avoid an unnecessary move into a residential care home.
If you want to stay independent, active and involved in your community, extra care housing can offer a safe, comfortable and supportive place to live, helping you to live independently for longer.
